Yay! It’s April.
Now, back to March, and the 5 Things I have been loving to see, hear, smell, taste, touch.
Hello, 7pm daylight! Since the spring equinox on March 20th, we’ve been gleefully experiencing “longer” days. On March 1, the sun was fully set by 6pm. By March 31…7:20pm! We’re gaining little slices of extra daylight every single day, and my mental and emotional health is the better for it.
2. Yoga Nidra
Last month, one of my yoga teachers released her highly anticipated Yoga Nidra album on iTunes. Mona Anand is affectionately known around the ISHTA Yoga studio for her delicious restorative classes, her soft Indian accent, and putting people into deep “how-long-was-I-out?” savasanas using her finely tuned Yoga Nidra technique. Yoga Nidra (also known as “yogic sleep”) is a guided meditation that deeply relaxes the body and mind. Using a series of relaxation techniques and visualizations, Yoga Nidra encourages the brain into an “alpha” state–the space between conscious thinking (beta) and dreaming (theta) where most healing and relaxation occurs. Like a really awesome yogic nap, Yoga Nidra is said to have the same physiological effect as six hours of regular sleep. Curious? Download Mona’s album, cancel your evening plans, and be prepared to deeply heal.
3. Fresh Air
Through my windows. Because they’re open. Because they can be.
Personally, I have always believed in the healing qualities of chocolate. But now that I’ve found Wei of Chocolate, I’m a full-on chocolate healing evangelist. Wei of Chocolate lovingly infuses dark (organic, vegan, Fair Trade) chocolate with special healing qualities using flower essences, herbs, and spices. Wei Gratitude, for example, combines 65% dark chocolate with Dyssodia flower essence to promote the feeling of “being”, Sapphire essence to promote inner calm, Pink Ruby essence to generate love and affection, and traditional chai spices to promote total blissful yum.
[Big gratitude to Elena Brower for introducing me to the Wei of Chocolate!]
I’ve preached my love for INIKA before, but here I am again. Though the daylight is on the rise, my pale winter skin has been begging me for some color. As a makeup minimalist, things like blush and bronzer intimidate me (or just remind me of 6th grade dance recitals…maybe), so this super light Highlighting Cream is my new best friend. A dab on the cheeks, a smudge along the brows, and my skin is set aglow with a spring-kissed finished. And while it might seem pricey, this little tube goes a loooong way. I’ve been using it for at least a month and I’ve hardly made a dent.
Love and lists,
